CURRENTLY BEING REDESIGNED.... This homemade condenser is a simple way to recover some of your methanol. Because of the low heat of water heaters (150 degrees F) it may not be as effective as other methods. It does work and saves space and time. It works by pumping ice water from any bucket (you supply) into the bottom of the PVC tube. It exits the top and circulates through the bucket again (I pre-freeze 2 liter bottles in my frezer for the ice). Hot glycerol/methanol in the water heater rises up the water heater into the copper tube and is condensed when it hits the jacketed portion. Methanol drips down to the carboy below (you supply).
